Teen Health and Development Study
The UBC Social Health Lab, in collaboration with Dr. Jerilynn Prior and the Centre for Menstrual Cycle and Ovulation Research (CeMCOR, www.cemcor.ca), is inviting young adolescent women (or people with ovaries of reproductive age, PORA) between the ages of 13-15 years to join this important three-year study.
This study is funded by the Canadian government (CIHR) to examine how hormones affect teenagers’ emotions, social behaviours, and mental health.
We ask adolescents and their families to participate in 6 online study sessions across 3 years and complete questionnaires, cognitive tasks, and saliva sampling for assessment of hormone levels. Participating families will receive $35-45 for each completed lab session (up to $240 in total).
All study sessions can be completed remotely, from anywhere in Canada. We seek to understand the diversity of Canadian adolescents’ experiences and welcome to participate gender-diverse individuals, sexual minority people, and people with backgrounds or identities that have been traditionally underrepresented in research.
Adolescents will learn new things about themselves and their development! Together, all teen and parental participants will contribute to understanding how parents and the community can better support adolescents to becoming healthier and happier young adults.
