Conjugated estrogens

« Back to Glossary Index

A kind of estrogen that is joined to other chemicals to improve its stability. Conjugated estrogen sulfate (CES) is “vegetarian premarin.” Conjugated equine estrogen (Premarin®) is the historically important mixture of estrogens derived from pregnant mare’s urine used for so called “HRT.” These oral forms of estrogen have been repeatedly shown to cause over a 200% increased risk for thrombosis and should be avoided in favor of transdermal estrogen.
