Endocrinologist

« Back to Glossary Index

Physician who is an internal medicine specialist with expertise in hormones and glands. Traditionally endocrinology focusses on diabetes, thyroid, pituitary, adrenal gland and parathyroid, calcitonin, calcium functions as well as (sometimes) osteoporosis and related medical problems. Some endocrinologists also focus on men’s or women’s reproduction; often “reproductive endocrinologists” have gynecology (a branch of surgery) rather than medicine as their primary training; often those focussing on men’s reproduction are trained in the surgical specialty of urology.
