A lower dose form of oral contraceptive agent containing 20 micrograms of ethinyl estradiol and an androgenic progestin in the same amount for three weeks with one week off. In a 6-cycle randomized controlled trial of perimenopausal women with heavy flow, it was shown to decrease flow slightly, but it did not significantly improve hot flushes or quality of life.
