Adolescence
Adolescence, the normal life phase from menarche (first period) until age 20, is a time of growth and change—physically, emotionally and socially. It is the transition from girlhood into adult womanhood.

Premenopause
This normal life phase extends from age 20 until the changes of perimenopause. During the premenopausal years we make choices about preventing or becoming pregnant—we learn the challenges as well as the joys of motherhood.

Perimenopause
The transition from reproductive adulthood to menopause (1 year after the last menstruation) is called perimenopause. Perimenopause may begin as early as age 35 and end as late as 59. Even when cycles remain regular, experiences change.

Menopause
This is the normal life phase starting a year after the last flow and lasting for the rest of our lives. It is sometimes called “postmenopause.” At the start of menopause we are in hopefully healthy midlife.
